La Josie

One of my favorite places to go for a twist on authentic Mexican is La Josie, conveniently located on Randolph Street near the B&B. There’s not one, not two, but THREE (!!!) bars to choose from, including a rooftop bar for patio season libations. With a Jalisco focus drawn from the familial roots of the Villegas family of which the restaurant is named, La Josie is known for their impeccable mezcal and tequila selections, with over 100 to choose from.

They offer a happy hour from 4-6 Monday-Friday with 50% off specials on margaritas, tacos dorados and their homemade salsas, and brunch specials Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 3pm. In addition to their awesome specials, their regular lunch and dinner menus are to die for, with dishes ranging from the classic taco trio to chapuzon, a three fish entree consisting of tilapia, tiger shrimp, and grilled Spanish octopus.

During my last visit to La Josie, I went with the taco trio, pictured at right, and opted for the Baja tacos with beer battered mahi-mahi and avocado. Paired with the pineapple guacamole and a fresh mezcal cocktail, and lots of great conversation with the charismatic staff at the back bar.

Check them out and let us know your favorites! They’re located at 740 W. Randolph, right in the epicenter of the vibrant West Loop.
