Punch Bowl Chicago
Need a place to go bowling, sing karaoke, play giant scrabble, experience virtual reality, hear a badass DJ, and play (fail at) Jenga all in one go? Well, have I got the place for you! Punch Bowl Social, a chain of entertainment centered bars with 18 locations across the states with one being in Fulton Market District, has the answer. It’s an adult playground of over 30,000 square feet across two levels, full of booze, food, music, and all the games your heart desires.
Stepping into PBS Fulton, you walk right into what looks like a 70’s themed laundromat. There’s brightly colored washing machines lining the wall, and to the right it looks like the “desk” for the laundromat where you’d drop off dry cleaning or wash and fold. That desk is actually one of four bars in the establishment, and for all my Midwesterners, there’s corn hole right next to the bar! Up the stairs, you find enough activities and games to keep you in one location till closing time. There’s even a spot for exercise- a stationary bike that you pedal that actually charges your phone with the energy you produce by pedaling greets you at your immediate left, just before you pass the ample seating area and transition to the main bar. The cocktail menu is extensive, which includes adult milkshakes, and the food menu is full of classics from chips and guac, to more elevated dishes like Five Layer Beef Brisket Chili and French Dip.
The best part is most definitely not the food and drink, though.
You can bowl for $10-$12 bucks per person for an hour, then hop over to the Holiday Lodge room where you can play giant Scrabble, pool, and Giant Jenga. Then take your adventure over to the 360-degree bar where they often on weekends have different DJ’s spinning for hours. Head back over to the bowling area where they’ve got Virtual Reality headsets for $20-$45, depending on how long you want to play for, then jump over to the Vintage Arcade for some classic Frogger, Donkey Kong, and pinball. Book your own karaoke room for $35-$45 per hour and pretend you’re Lady Gaga, then find the bocce ball, ping pong, and foosball tables.
I mean seriously, the opportunities are endless. This is the best place to hang out in the winter, because you can head to one single location and not have to trek through the Chicago winter to get from place to place once you get bored. Punch Bowl is open from 11am-2am on Friday’s, and 9am-2am on Friday and Saturday, meaning you could get there as early or as late as you want and still be able to actually get booked in for all the fun things. It does get pretty booked up after 5pm for the bowling lanes and karaoke rooms, so try to reserve in advance if you know you and your gang want to get in to any of those shenanigans. Kimberly hosted her half birthday (yes, she celebrates her half birthday, don’t ask) at Punch Bowl last year, and it was a blast. We had two lanes to ourselves for the party and then roamed the place as the night went on and were there for HOURS. It was a great time and I highly recommend booking something here if you’ve got a decent sized crew you’re partying with while you’re here, and also if you’re just looking for some good fun when you’re in the area!
